Basic troubleshooting and maintenance

Often overlooked starting points for help are Help>Mac Help and the Applecare channel in Sherlock.
The discussions at apple are a great place to find help with virtually any problem you are having with your Mac. A quick search will usually bring up a discussion plus suggested solutions on most problems and if it doesn't you can post your own topic/question.

Create a password-protected (encrypted) disk image.
